However, just hours before the film’s premiere, a viral video from a theater in Namakkal sparked a fresh controversy over excessive ticket prices. The video sparked widespread debate on social media, with fans questioning whether theaters were adhering to government-approved ticketing rules for one of this year’s Tamil blockbusters.
Fans question theater ‘Jana Nayagan’ ticket price increase
A video widely circulated on social media shows a heated argument between moviegoers and theater staff over the ticket price of “Jana Nayagan”. In the video, angry fans are seen arguing with the theater management in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu. One fan asked why tickets were allegedly being sold for Rs 300 when they thought the allowed price was much lower. But theater management rejected the claims and accused fans of selling tickets at higher prices. “Who allowed you to sell tickets for Rs 300?” asked the theater management. “Call the CM office and ask if it can be sold for Rs 300.” Meanwhile, another person kept asking the management about the pricing, while the theater staff insisted that the price was fixed as per the distributor’s instructions. Since then, the deal has gone viral, with many users asking the theater if it violated the approved pricing norms.
‘Jana Nayagan’ has strict fare rules
According to reports, the authorities have issued strict instructions to theaters to follow the ticket price structure approved for Jana Nayagan, considering that this is Vijay’s first film to be released after taking office as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Officials have repeatedly warned theater owners not to charge more than government-approved prices or unauthorized premiums. The viral video has since sparked fresh debate on social media, with many supporters calling on authorities to ensure all cinemas adhere to the rules to avoid being overcharged when watching movies.
