NEW DELHI: Neeraj ChopraCoach Jaiveer Chaudhary’s name has been omitted from India’s final contingent list for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as the squad has received administrative and financial approval from the sports ministry, TOI has learnt. The absence means Chopra is likely to compete without her coach in the Games, scheduled from July 23-August 2. If Chaudhary travels, he will do so in a personal capacity at Chopra’s expense and stay out of the team’s designated hotel.Chopra reunited with Chaudhary, her childhood coach, in January 2026 after ending her relationship with world record holder Jan Zelezny. Chopra’s long-time physiotherapist Ishaan Marwaha was included in the government-approved contingent. The 42-member athletics contingent consists of 32 athletes, eight coaches and support staff, and two Extra Team Officials (ETOs). Chopra was initially unsure for the Games due to injury concerns. Also not included in the approved list is long jumper M Sreeshankar’s coach and father, S Murali, a former international triple jumper who guided the national record-holder throughout his career. If he travels to Glasgow, Murali will do so privately at his own expense. In boxing, the ministry clarified the inclusion of Jadumani Singh in the men’s 55kg category after seeking clarification from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) on his selection for the CWG and Asian Games.Jadumani, who won the selection trials in Patiala, will now travel with the team. Meanwhile, men’s 70kg boxer Sumit Kundu is waiting for a visa for his coach Ved Prakash, with help sought from the UK High Commission. The ministry approved the 191 member contingent consisting of 126 athletes (78 men and 48 women), 56 team officials/support staff/managers and nine ETOs, apart from the 14 IOA contingent staff led by chef-de-mission Rohit Rajpal. The nine ETOs will stay outside the designated team hotels, with their accommodation costs borne by the IOA.
