Jamia Millia Islamia revamps exam rules, lets final year students pass compartment exams to clear exam backlog
For many final-year students, a backlog of papers can delay graduation by months. Jamia Millia Islamia has now changed the exam rules to reduce the waiting time by allowing eligible students to directly appear for the compartment exam instead of waiting for the next regular exam cycle.Following the decision, the University Executive Council approved the 15th Amendment PTI.
What changes have occurred among final year students?
As per the revised rules, students in the final semester or final year of the annual system will be eligible to appear for the divisional examination after the final semester or final year examination if they have backlog papers from the previous semester or previous year. The university said the timetable for divisional examinations will be announced separately by the Office of the Controller of Examinations. This provision only applies to students enrolled in regular courses. Those pursuing courses through distance education will not be covered under the revised rules.
Reevaluation options have also been modified
The amendment to Article 15, Section 24.4 stipulates that courses that adopt the carryover system will generally not conduct room-based examinations. However, there is an exception for final year or final semester students who are allowed to clear their backlog of question papers by taking compartment exams. The Executive Council also revised the reassessment provisions. As per the revised Regulation 15, Clause 23.1, final year students may choose to sit for the divisional examination directly instead of applying for re-evaluation of their answers.Students in other grades can still choose to apply for re-evaluation in accordance with the current procedures within 15 days after the results are released.
