India’s Chanambam Rishikanta Singh clinched the silver medal in the men’s 60kg weightlifting event at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday, giving the country its first silver medal and second overall podium finish of the Games. The 28-year-old from Manipur gave a memorable performance by rewriting the Commonwealth Games record books in the snatch before finishing second in a fierce battle in the final.
Rishikanta sets new CWG snatch record
Rishikanta made a remarkable start by successfully lifting 121kg in his third and final snatch attempt, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the discipline. The effort briefly put him at the top of the standings with Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq Bin Kasdan, setting up a fierce battle of clean and jerk.

Going into the second round, the two lifters were only separated by trials, with the race for the gold medal hanging in the balance.

Rishikanta opened the clean and jerk with a successful 143kg lift but failed to improve his total after failing to clear 151kg in his final attempt. He finished the competition with a total of 264kg (121kg in the snatch and 143kg in the clean and jerk), which was good enough for the silver medal.The miss left Malaysia’s Aniq Kasdan in the lead with a total of 266kg (121+145), while Rishikanta remained second with 264kg (121+143). Kenya’s Mboya moved into third with 260kg (115+145).
