BCCI discusses future of Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel as coaches of Team India; T Dilip under fire | Cricket News
New Delhi: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) may have to work overtime to secure support staff for the Indian team after the conclusion of the ongoing tour of England. TOI understands that assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fast bowling coach Morne Morkel are considering moving into their respective roles once their contracts expire after the ODI series in England this month. “Doeschate is not very sure about continuing this job. He has expressed his problems traveling with the team throughout the year. Morkel is still weighing his options. The board has discussed the matter with the two coaches and will try to see if things can be resolved,” a BCCI source told TOI. The Indian team will leave for Sri Lanka for a two-Test series in the first week of August. Cricket head of Center of Excellence (CoE) VVS Laxman he will bring his CoE coaching staff for India’s three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe in the last week of July. Sources say Doeschate may be in talks with an IPL franchise, while Morkel is yet to say anything firm. Head coach Gautam Gambhir These two coaches were hand-picked when he took charge in July 2024. The BCCI has always endorsed support staff coming through its CoE coaching programme. Last year, Abhishek Nayar replaced by Sitanshu Kotak as batting coach. If the Doeschate and Morkel matters are not resolved, the BCCI may be forced to send Lakshmipathy Balaji, who was recently appointed as the CoE’s fast bowling coach, to Sri Lanka. Fielding coach under fire TOI also learned that fielding coach T Dilip is under pressure to save his job. The board was not happy with the deteriorating fielding standards of the team. Dilip got a reprieve last year after being sacked along with Nayar.
