After the inauguration of the Ram temple, Ayodhya has become one of the fastest growing real estate destinations in India, attracting high-profile investors and witnessing a major infrastructure boom. Bollywood celebrities are not far behind. Amitabh Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor are among the big names investing in the temple town, collectively acquiring prime plots as the city transforms into a hub for luxury real estate, spiritual tourism and infrastructure.Amitabh Bachchan is Ayodhya’s biggest celebrity investment so far, with his total land acquisitions estimated to be over Rs 900-100 crore. The veteran actor is also the first big shot to invest in luxury real estate in the city.His real estate portfolio includes an initial 10,000 sq ft plot worth around Rs 14.5 crore, purchased before the inauguration of the Ram Mandir, followed by a 5,372 sq ft plot worth Rs 4.54 crore. Later, he acquired a luxurious 25,000 sq ft plot near the Sarayu development for nearly Rs 40 crore. Bachchan also purchased a 67-acre land through his family business AB Corp Ltd for Rs 35 crore. In addition, there is a building covering 54,454 square feet. ft. plot has been registered in the name of Harivansh Rai Bachchan Memorial Trust and a memorial to his father has been proposed there.Apart from celebrity investments, Ayodhya has also witnessed a massive infrastructure overhaul, with projects worth nearly Rs 85,000 crore aimed at transforming it into a global pilgrimage destination. The city is already home to the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport and the redeveloped Ayodhya Dham railway station, while the 187-km-long Namo Bharat corridor connecting Kanpur and Ayodhya has also been approved, reducing travel time between the two cities to about 90 minutes.The city’s long-term connectivity plans include the proposed Rs 32,000-crore Kanpur-Ayodhya Namobarat corridor and the Delhi-Ayodhya bullet train, which is expected to cover the 670-km journey in about two hours. At the same time, the Uttar Pradesh government allocated an additional 1.5 billion rupees in the latest budget to strengthen infrastructure maintenance and further improve facilities for pilgrims to visit the holy city.As reported earlier, Ranbir also entered the prime real estate market in Ayodhya by purchasing a 2,134 sq ft plot in Sarayu town for Rs 331 crore. The investment was made before the actor played Lord Ram in Ramayana. Speaking about the acquisition, Kapoor described it as a “divine calling” and said he saw it as a long-term investment that would become a family legacy.Ranbir’s next Ramayana will hit theaters on Diwali.
