Krishnavataram actress Sanskrit JayanaThe granddaughter of Uttar Pradesh Governor and former Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel recently welcomed viewers to her stunning traditional home in Gujarat. More than just a luxury home, the property is a tribute to India’s diverse craft heritage, with almost every element handcrafted by skilled craftsmen.From thoughtfully designed wall patterns and handcrafted cushions, to linens, tablecloths and decorative pieces, excellence in craftsmanship is showcased in every corner of the home. Sanscruti revealed that several of the artworks displayed throughout the home took months or even years to complete.
A traditional haveli built around family and crafts
The home follows a classic Gujarati Haveli layout with a courtyard as the centerpiece, keeping the family connected on all levels. During a tour of the house with Mashable India, Sanskruti explained that her parents wanted the design to reflect this openness, connecting the various floors with corridors so that “even people standing upstairs can participate in the conversations happening below.”The actress said, “My parents’ vision was to build the house like a traditional Gujarati haveli. Every Gujarati home has a central courtyard where the family gathers. The floors are connected to each other through open corridors, so even those standing upstairs can participate in the conversations happening below.”This spirit of connection extends to the home’s decor, much of which is handmade, a direct result of her mother’s decades-long relationships with artisans across the country. “My mother has been working with artisans in the handicraft field for the past 25 years. I grew up around them. Everything in this house is handmade,” Sanskruti shares.
Wall of Wisdom, Inspirational Quotes and Kutch Inspired Designs
A prominent feature is a dedicated wall commemorating the leaders who shaped India, which the family calls the “Wall of Wisdom.” Elsewhere, inspirational quotes are woven into walls, corridors and outdoor pathways throughout the hotel, designed to inspire anyone who passes by. The walls of the house also feature design elements inspired by Kutch border embroidery, giving the space a distinctly Gujarati visual identity, alongside scriptures, miniature artworks and vintage wedding paraphernalia that have been repurposed as decorative pieces.
Sustainable design and tribute to her “Mr. Toilet” grandfather
Sustainability is in the home’s DNA. Sanscruti describes the property as “conscious living,” noting rainwater harvesting, solar energy and other environmentally friendly practices integrated into daily life. That spirit shows up in unexpected places, too, with even the washrooms featuring unique color themes, inspirational quotes and mini libraries, a detail Sanskruti can trace back to her grandfather, who she says was “popularly known as ‘Mr Toilet'” after he was awarded the Padma Shri for his work in sanitation.“Our house is built for conscious living. It is completely eco-friendly. We collect rainwater, use solar panels to generate electricity and follow practices that help us coexist with nature,” says Sanskruti.
Open kitchen, pizza oven and “Thanksgiving Walk”
The home’s open kitchen opens to a dining area and outdoor seating area, perfect for the monsoon months, while a separate outdoor kitchen area can host family gatherings, cooking events and campfires, including, as Sanskruti says, family pizza nights thanks to the home’s dedicated pizza oven.Perhaps the most unique space is the “Path of Gratitude,” a path lined with inscriptions expressing gratitude to nature, the five elements and life itself, designed to encourage reflection. The hotel also features dedicated meditation and yoga spaces, further complementing its focus on mindful living.
