History of the Lord! Harmanpreet Kaur entered the elite Indian list with a special milestone | Cricket News
Captain of India Harmanpreet Kaur achieved another major career milestone on the opening day of the one-off women’s Test against England at Lord’s, becoming only the third Indian batter to score 9000 international runs in women’s cricket. The mark came during his innings which comprised 58 off 121 deliveries on Friday. The batting of No. 5, Harmanpreet hit seven boundaries and played a key role in keeping India’s innings going with an 89-run fourth-wicket partnership with the vice-captain Smriti Mandhanawho made 83 off 108 balls. The Punjab batter needed just 13 runs before the start of the match to reach the milestone. He got there on the fifth ball of the 24th over of India’s innings, adding a significant achievement to an already decorated international career. Harmanpreet is only the third Indian woman to cross the 9000-run mark across formats, following former captain Mithali Raj and current vice-captain Mandhana. Mithali ended her illustrious international career in 2022 with 10,868 runs from 333 games. Mandhana, who made his 300th international appearance during the Lord’s Test, has amassed 10,667 runs across formats. Harmanpreet, on the other hand, took his tally to 9,045 runs in 374 international matches. His record includes 4,541 runs in 164 ODIs, 4,216 runs in 202 T20Is and 288 runs from 12 innings in eight Test matches. The 37-year-old has enjoyed one of the longest and most successful careers in women’s cricket since making her international debut against Pakistan in an ODI at Bowral on March 7, 2009. She also holds the distinction of being the most capped player in women’s cricket and remains the only cricketer, in both men’s and women’s international cricket, to have played more than 200 T20Is. As captain, Harmanpreet guided India to the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup title in November 2025, adding another major global trophy to her leadership record. She previously led India to the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020, where the team finished runner-up after losing to Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Recently, Harmanpreet captained India in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. However, losses to South Africa and Australia at the Group A stage prevented India from reaching the semifinals, while Australia went on to lift the title on 5 July.
