Nikam explains his arguments against clemency for Sanjay Dutt
Elaborating on his stand before the court, Nikam said: “My contention is that Sanjay Dutt should not enjoy the benefits of the Probation of Offenders Act. He was convicted under the Arms Act and although the court acquitted him of conspiracy, we have no objection to that. However, I am of the view that he should be sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment under the Arms Act. His lawyer argued that since this is his first offence, he should be released on bail. My objection is because the pistol in his possession is from the world’s top shooter Daoud Ibrahim. If he accepted weapons from such a man, he was fully aware of his criminal background. The benefit of the Probation of Offenders Act is for first-time offenders who are truly innocent but find themselves in an unfortunate situation. This is not the case with Sanjay Dutt. “
Sanjay Dutt hires best lawyers in the country

If I hadn’t inspired him, the media would have made me out to be the villain. Everyone is against me. “

Nikam says Sanjay Dutt could have prevented 1993 blasts
However, Nikam points out that his real disappointment is that Sanjay could have helped prevent the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. “when abu salem Sanjay Dutt came with a truck full of weapons, he kept some and returned the rest. My point is, if he had informed the police immediately, we could have prevented the bomb from going off. The conspiracy could have been exposed, many lives could have been saved, and those involved could have been arrested. That’s what I don’t like about him. But he is not a terrorist. “
