‘Jana Nayagan’ craze sweeps the world: Japanese fans in kimonos attend Thalapathy Vijay’s FDFS in Chennai

The release of ‘Jana Nayagan’, the last film starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, was celebrated with a grand ceremony in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. As thousands of fans gathered outside the theater to watch the premiere, two viewers from Japan took center stage with their unique tribute to the actors. The women arrived outside the Rohini Cinema in Chennai wearing traditional kimonos. They also brought Japanese fans with them and proudly displayed a custom-made poster specially for Vijay. The two men carried posters that read “The Greatest Talapathy Japanese Fans of All Time”. Video of fans celebrating outside the theater soon went viral on social media.

Opening day celebrations are like a festival

The release of ‘Jana Nayagan’ witnessed massive celebrations in multiple theatres. Fans organized drumming performances, decorative displays, banners and cutouts to welcome Vijay in his final film. For many admirers, the film is more than just another movie in theaters. This marked the end of Vijay’s acting career after entering politics and becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu before fully committing to public service.

Vijay’s farewell film has high hopes

Trade experts predict a strong start for Jana Nayagan, citing Vijay’s loyal fan base and the historic significance of his last appearance on the big screen. “Jana Nayagan” is directed by H. Vinoth and stars Pooja Hegde opposite Vijay while Bobby Deol plays the main villain. The cast also includes Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Narain and several other well-known actors playing important roles. The music of the film is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Its songs and background music were already popular even before its theatrical release, increasing anticipation for the project.

Mixed reviews for ‘Jana Nayagan’

The film, meanwhile, received mixed reviews. One tweet read: “I watched #Bhagavanth Kesari (2023) immediately after watching #LEO (2023). I liked parts of ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’, though not completely. That said, #JanaNayagan is a partial remake of Bhagavanth Kesari and is an above average political action thriller. The title card sequence is very good.” Another wrote: “Overall, JANA NAYAGAN” is an above average political action thriller, Sarapathy Vijayhas great screen presence and interesting sequences, but is hampered by an uneven script and an uninteresting villain track. As THALAPATHY Vijay’s last film, it still provides enough viewing value for fans. “
