‘Innings people will remember’: Former India cricketer hopes Rohit Sharma signs century if ODI at Lord’s is his last | Cricket News
Amid speculations that Sunday’s third and final ODI against England at Lord’s will be Rohit Sharma’s last international appearance, former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel believes the former captain will be able to score a memorable century. As reported by TOI earlier, the selection committee has decided that he was not the first-choice opener after the England series on Sunday. As things stand, Sunday’s game could be the 39-year-old’s last game for India. Rohit has retired from Test cricket and T20 Internationals.Patel said India’s opener has repeatedly shown during his career that he can respond strongly after a slow run and hopes to do so again if Sunday’s match is his last.“If the Lord’s ODI is indeed the last match of his career, Rohit Sharma will want to score a century. He is more than capable of doing that. We have seen this throughout his career – after two or three low scores, he always rises with a match-winning knock in the next innings,” Patel told ‘JioStar’.“The difference between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has always been consistency. Rohit may not score much in every match, but when he does, he plays a lot of innings and always ends up winning the Player of the Match award.Patel said Rohit struggled to adjust to the variable bounce in Cardiff and could never settle into his innings, but backed him to answer his critics once again.“But this is another opportunity for him to silence his critics. It happened many times before, and he always responded with the bat. So, if the Lord ODI is really his last game, I hope he plays an innings that people will remember for a long time,” said the former wicketkeeper-batter.
