Vaidya shared a heartfelt video on social media in which he introduced himself before making an impassioned plea to the public.“I don’t want Phunsukh Wangdu to die. Hello idiots, pehchana? I’m Omi Vaidya, Chatur from 3 Idiots and Sadiq from The Office, and I have an important message for you. I don’t do this very often, so listen up. ” He went on to explain the real-life inspiration behind one of Bollywood’s most popular characters.“Did you know that Phunsukh Wangdu in ‘3 Idiots’ was actually based on the real-life Ladakhi engineer, innovator, educator and reformer Sonam Wangchuk? I’ve met this man. He’s a very interesting character.” The actor called Wangchuk “humble” and “an impressive man” and highlighted his contributions before expressing concerns about his health.“Now he’s on a long hunger strike. His blood sugar has dropped a lot. I don’t know if you’ve heard about it. I don’t know if it’s been reported in the media. But it’s a very important thing.”Vaidya further said that regardless of opinions, he hopes people understand the seriousness of the situation. “Whether you agree with it or not, I really don’t want this guy to die.”
Protests continue as health concerns worsen
Sonam Wangchuck’s health deteriorated during the fast, according to the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), which claims he has lost nearly 9 kilograms since taking part in the protests. Wangchuck has been taking part in demonstrations over alleged NEET exam irregularities, while also raising concerns related to education, Ladakh autonomy and environmental issues.The protests are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and compensation to the family of a NEET aspirant who allegedly committed suicide. The CJP also announced a peaceful march to Parliament on July 20 during the monsoon session.
